How Are You Making Other’s Lives Better?

Being of service is one of the best feelings you can have.  Especially when it is just given freely.

Educators are unbelievable in all they give and how they serve.

I know for years when I was involved with Norman Public Schools, my heart was open to serve in many ways that would be of benefit to my school and students.

It allowed me to feel connected.

I had a better feeling for the community and all it offered our families.

It lifted my spirits to see how many people cared about our kids.

Non-profits are amazing organizations.  Their purpose is to serve.

Going through this pandemic has really awakened people to see the dedication and servant leadership of many people.  Even through all the struggles.  Whether that is our grocery store workers, vaccine helpers or local businesses.  It has allowed people to better understand the role the government plays in serving in ways that for profit businesses are not meant to.

I love reading stories about people and how they have served others.  Take time to focus on finding stories of others helping others.  It lifts your spirits.  Just this week I read a story about one of our legendary football coaches and the impact he had on so many of his players, still 50 years later.

Everyone’s role matters.  It’s the commitment to serving for a higher purpose, to make someone else’s life better.  Not for the glory but for the giving to help another.

As Pope Francis says, “Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves.  Living for others is a rule of nature.  We are all born to help each other.  No matter how difficult it is…Life is good when you are happy but much better when others are happy because of you.”

As you think about your week ahead, find ways to serve others.  Take time to notice what happens to your life because of what you choose to do.

Is there a project you could be a part of because you enjoy that work?

Is there something you have could help with because of the talents and skills you have?

Life is what you make of it.

Let serving others lift you to a better feeling place.
